Why study traditional Kung Fu ?
“A Journey into Yourself”
The ultimate aim of Shaolin Kung Fu training is not the achievement of a particular grade such as Black Sash, the winning of a World Championship title or the development of great acrobatic and gymnastic skills. The practice of Shaolin Kung Fu is actually “A Journey into the Self ”; a never-ending exciting journey of self-exploration, self-discovery and self-improvement. Through the practice of sophisticated physical skills based on the movements of various creatures that are also moving meditations you will achieve a raising of consciousness and a heightening of awareness that will help you to develop a deep and intimate knowledge and understanding of and respect for yourself, others & your environment whilst also improving your overall health and physical fitness and developing your self-defence capabilities. The benefits and rewards of training are many, but here are just a few - Benefits & Rewards

That is why every arm must be a spear, every hand
an axe and every finger a dagger, that I may reach

Avoid rather than check, Check rather than block
Block rather than hurt, Hurt rather than maim
Maim rather than kill, for all life is precious
and once taken it can never be replaced."

Traditional Kung Fu - A Journey into Yourself
“Movement is Life” - Physical Fitness
They say; “Motion is lotion” and anything that doesn’t move is dead. As a biomechanical machine the human body is built for movement. A healthy mind, strong character and overall confidence can be developed in part through the safe, disciplined and well balanced training of the body. In addition, through becoming physically fit, you will be better able to perform the techniques of Kung Fu to a high standard, thus enhancing your ability to protect yourself in self-defence situations. In line with this way of thinking your training will include:-
a. In depth study of safe & efficient movement.
b. Co-ordination of mind and body - including the use of
stationary and moving meditations.
c. Harmonization of movements with breathing - Breathing
and Breath Control Exercises.
d. Body Awareness Training - Exercises to improve your
balance, coordination, endurance, speed, timing, flexibility
and motor skills (Neuro- muscular) responses and control.
e. Body strengthening and conditioning
If all this talk of physical training discourages you, then don't let it. Nobody is expected to be fit when they begin to practise with us and you will naturally get fitter and stronger as you progress through your training. Bear in mind that you do not practice Kung Fu for anyone else, it is solely for your own personal development, to help you become
"The best that YOU can be "
